Jez Pinfold taught English and Film Studies in London for twenty years, including eight years as Head of English, before taking time out to focus on his writing career. He has a Master’s degree in Media and Education from Goldsmiths College, University of London. Before landing in secondary teaching he had various jobs, including roadie, sound engineer, guitar tutor and teacher of English as a foreign language.
After writing, his other passion is music. He plays guitar in a rowdy covers band currently called The Maverick Detectives, although they frequently change their name to avoid becoming too recognised and succumbing to the trappings of fame.
Jez’s debut novel, a crime thriller set in contemporary London and the first of the series featuring DCI Rebecca Pope, was shortlisted for the Daily Mail/Penguin Random House First Novel Competition 2018 and longlisted for The Bath Novel Awards 2019, receiving the Cornerstones Longlist Prize, as well as a ‘Golden Vote’ from one of the judges, ‘given to a standout entry the reader can’t stop thinking about’.
The Deptford Murder, the first in the DCI Rebecca Pope series, was published by Joffe Books in December 2022.
